Important changes

He're some really important information you should be aware about if you're going to play this new version of Popmundo.

General things to be aware of

  • Most functionality needed to play the core music game is already in here, but not all. Those of you with a company license, who finds that you're missing some function, are still allowed into the old version.
  • When we release new code, you will be thrown out from the server. Expect this to happen a few times each day.
  • A few pages are still in English. This can be either because the translators aren't done with that page or that we (developers) haven't prepared the page for translation.
  • Abuse reporting has been enabled, but so far just for abusive conversations. If you wish to make an abuse report, click the "Report abuse" icon in the statusbar while viewing the offensive content. In the future, you will be able to report other content as well.
  • The crime parts of the game isn't in here. They will have their own little beta later on.
  • Your 2.0 relationships are different from your 1.0 relationships. You may import them from the old version, but doing so only imports your part of the relationship.
  • Some cities (like Shanghai and Melbourne) will display a different local time than they do in Popmundo 1.0. We've rewritten the time zone system entirely, and they should now match the "really real world" better.
  • Some character blocks from P1 are functioning in P2, and vice versa, but not all. If you have any true nemesis, make sure to block him/her in P2 as well.
  • Some stuff, like the setlist designer and other pages with drag and drop-functionality, doesn't work that good on a mobile/touch screen device. In most cases, there are a "fall back version" for them, which should work better.
  • There is no full support for mobile devices yet. Feel free to try playing it on your phone, but we won't deal with mobile bugs until we release our mobile skin. Please do not report bugs regarding mobile devices.
  • If you're using Internet Explorer with a version number less than 9, expect the site to look kinda crappy. FireFox, Safari and Chrome users should be fine though.
  • If you worry about dates and times displaying incorrectly, or if you got less (or more) money in Popmundo 2.0 than in 1.0, it's because we've rebuilt the formatting- and currency system. Go visit the Language and regional settings page and select a more suitable country under "Date, time and currency settings".

Travel Times

Travels are much quicker in the new version of the game. Why!? Because there's not much to do while travelling and it's more fun to hang out in a city. However, travelling short distances with really quick vehicles take a little bit longer now.

Private Jets are usually the fastest and most comfortable means of travel. This option is only available to VIP players however. Regular flights are generally speaking faster than personal vehicles but not all the time depending on what vehicle you're using. Both these forms of tranportation come with other pros and cons though so it's not just a matter of the fastest is the best.

Opening and Closing Doors

With the exceptions of homes. The doors to locales won't be allowed to be opened or closed at a whim by players anymore. Instead we will add other means of controlling who's allowed to enter a certain type of locale, if it's a locale which shouldn't be publicly available in the game.

What's with the newbie information all over the place?

This is a text based game. That doesn't mean people actually read the texts we present them with. Especially not if they're hidden as optional info, expandable links, or neatly tucked away in a rule book.

Yes, we know it's tedious to scroll past these texts a lot of the time. We'll try to keep them short and when more information is needed than what's tolerable to have on every page, we'll direct the player to the rules. The good thing about all this is that the actual "rule book" can focus more on interesting details, strategies, and overall game mechanics rather than bore you with basics all over the place.

Another nice side effect from having the "basic" rules available directly on the relevant pages is that us devs are roughly 296% more likely to actually update the rules whenever a feature is changed or tweaked.

Star Ratings

Everything in the game which is rated with stars is done so with a scale of 1-5 gold stars. We feel that consistency in this area will make things less confusing for everyone. It's also quite a lot easier to quickly and accurately "see" how many stars you've got in something if there are only 1-5 shown instead of anything up to ten.

VIP players get to see silver stars in addition to gold stars. The silver star represent 50% of a gold star. This means that the VIP player get twice the amount of resolution in these things.

It's important to note however, that we haven't changed any of the underlying values behind these ratings anywhere. It's simply a matter how we present things. We haven't made anyone worse at anything.

Tagging Items

This feature won't be available at police stations in the new version of Popmundo. In here all the items you acquire are automatically tagged with you as the rightful owner. There are many places in the game engine where items are handed to a character that needs to be updated to complete this change. We'll gradually change these when time allows us to.

Pricing

Lot's of the price calculations for different services, travels, repairs etc have been redone for this version of Popmundo. So there's no need to report that the cost of something isn't the same as it is in ye olde game. While we feel that the new calculations are better in their new versions there might be some tweaking needed to make them acceptable. Thus, questions regarding the price of things in the game should be tackled as open discussions rather than a bug.

Boosting attributes with XP

When boosting attributes you pay the amount of xp needed to get to the next level. You aren't able to do this in tiny steps anymore. We made this change since a lot of players found it difficult to keep track of when they should reach the next level and when they didn't get the result they expected they reported this as bugs.

Time in the Middle of Nowhere

In here the time zone in the middle of nowhere is the same as the city you were last located in.

Cash Transfers

In Popmundo 2.0 we allow characters to give their hard earned money to whomever they want.

Automatic Tour Buses

They work slightly differently now. They no longer happen instantly, instead they take as long as the should if travelling manually. And they're aren't VIP only! If you're going to activate the automatic tour buses in this version it's probably best if you deactivate them in the old Popmundo first. Kids can come too!

Item Use & Skill Checks

When using items in the old Popmundo you were pretty much guaranteed to succeed with any skill based checks involved if you had more than six out of ten stars in the relevant skill. A 100% success rate in Popmundo 2.0 when using a skill based item is now only achieved when you have mastered the relevant skill completely.
