A strange silence

There's a strange silence.

It's not the empty, heavy silence you used to force upon me, the one where every happy thought of mine drowned before even reaching the surface. This is a different silence. Light. It smells clean. It smells of love.

At first, I didn't understand what had changed. The morning light seemed the same, the coffee tasted the same. Then I realized: you weren't there.

I looked in the corner of the room where you always sat, your figure that loved to absorb my colors.
No one was there.
I strained my ears, trying to hear your icy whisper reminding me of every failure, every fear, every inadequacy.
Nothing.

I don't know where you went. Maybe you just decided to leave me in peace for a while, maybe you found someone else to torment. Or maybe, finally, my voice became stronger than yours.

I don't even want to wonder too much. I just want to savor this moment. This lightness. This possibility of simply being. I don't see you. I don't hear you anymore.

I know you'll be back someday, but for now, I'm happy. So happy, like I never thought I could be again.
I am happy.
