she was surrounded in the bar by endless crowds of people: couples, singles, men who leered at her drunkenly. she ignored all of them, only aware of the pain in her palms from where she'd incessantly dug her nails into the soft skin out of stress and addiction. she wanted to throw back her head and scream, cry, explode into a million different emotions, but she didn't.
instead, she became the opposite to how she had always been. now she felt cold, dangerously calm, and teetering on the edge. she really didn't tell anyone about her inner turmoil. she didn't think anyone would care. by this point in time, it had to be obvious that she was the one who had fucked up her own life. how would she recover from this?
she didn't have a manual for life. she couldn't treat this like any of the other relationships that had come and gone. this was so, so different.
inhaling a trembling and unstable breath, she dug her nails back into her palms. the stinging pain began once again. secretly, she hoped she could make herself bleed.
