his uncle's words echoed in his head as they opened the door, revealing an extremely dimly lit room.

he could barely make out the shape of lucas in that space, tied to a metal chair. yvan barely processed anything other than lucas, so he almost blindly hurried in that direction. he didn't even consider the fact that there were other men in that room and that as soon as yvan rushed towards lucas, they were pointing their guns at yvan.

it was hoshi who pulled his gun out, who left the bodies of the men on the floor in their own pooling blood.

yvan tore at the cloth gag, managing to get it off as he knelt down in front of his cousin. "h-hey," he began, reaching up and lightly patting the boy's chin. "hey, you're going to be okay. we're here."

not even checking for wounds or anything like that, he began to work on freeing him from his binds. yvan's hands were shaking and he felt dizzy and sick. this wasn't what he had signed up for when he had begun working for his father.

stepping back as he watched hoshi take care of his son, yvan began to feel cold and numb. he sank down onto the dirty floor and swallowed the growing lump in his throat. he had already known that it was all his fault, that none of this would have happened if he hadn't been the one to drag lucas into his drama.

he should have obeyed his father. he shouldn't have convinced lucas to disobey his father. he was just lucky that it appeared that lucas still had all of his fingers and toes intact.

he couldn't say the same for the other boy's mind - he had no idea. he had no idea if he had lost the trust of the other boy, in the end.

but it would take a long time for yvan to forgive himself for this.
