The gravity of existence
The bathroom mirror is fogged up.
I run my hand over the glass, clearing a path between the droplets, but the face staring back at me is a stranger.
I look for old signs, a scar, a crooked smile, the way I furrow my brow.
But everything seems distant, as if it belonged to someone else.
For a moment, I feel like going back, fitting into that skin again, wearing old dreams, laughing out loud like before.
But my mouth is bitter, my face tightens, my stomach feels sick, my chest aches.
I take a deep breath, but the air seems to be missing.
The damp towel falls onto the cold floor, the chilly tile sends shivers through my bare feet.
I lean on the sink, my fingers gripping the edge, trying to find steadiness in something.
The past pulses, but the present weighs on my body.
The smell of coffee enters uninvited, insistent, shameless.
The smile is involuntary, my fingers relax.
The weight is life.
