THE most special day
The house felt different that morning. Everyone tried to act normal, but the air was heavy with what they all knew. It was Gia’s birthday, and the secret was getting harder to keep.
Dolly wandered into the kitchen and dropped into a chair across from Tini, her fingers drumming on the table. “So,” she announced, eyes glinting, “today’s the day.”
Sid looked up from his coffee like she’d just blown the whole operation. “Don’t start, Dolly,” he warned. “You’ll spoil it.”
“Me?” Dolly pressed a hand to her chest, feigning innocence. “I’m the one holding this family together. If anyone slips, it’s gonna be you, Dad.”
Tini smirked into her mug, trying not to laugh. “He’s right, though,” she said gently. “If Gia catches on, the surprise is gone.”
Dolly leaned back in her chair, pretending to zip her lips, though her grin gave her away. It wasn’t just another birthday. It was THE birthday. And Gia deserved the kind of gift that said, you’re not a kid anymore.
“She deserves it,” Dolly added after a moment, her voice softer. “She’s ready. More ready than anyone gives her credit for.”
Sid set his cup down with a small nod. “That’s why it’s a big one,” he said. “And I’ll be right there to teach her. Step by step.”
Dolly’s grin returned, sharp as ever. “As long as you also teach her that I get shotgun every time. No exceptions.”
Tini groaned, Sid shook his head, but both of them were fighting smiles.
They were all in on it together, carrying the same secret, waiting for the moment Gia would finally find out. And none of them could wait to see her face.

To all the laughter we’ve had, and to all the adventures still waiting.
Hip hip hooray, Gia.
