scar to scar.
Jae sat in his car long after the door slammed behind him, long after Juwon's voice stopped echoing through his chest. the engine was off, the keys still shaking in his hand. he didn't cry, he couldn't. something inside him had cracked too clean for tears. he loved his dad too much for this to make sense. loved him in that forever way. Juwon was the first person who ever held his hand when no one else would, the one who pulled him out of a life that wanted to swallow him whole. losing his trust felt like the end of the world.
but love wasn't enough tonight. not enough to keep Juwon from telling him to leave, not enough to keep that fragile thread between them from snapping. Jae had always known, some part of him, buried deep, that a day like this might come. he felt too damaged, too rough at the edges to belong in a family that looked perfect to everyone else. he tried, but broken things made noise even when they tried to be silent.
his breath trembled, but he didn't fall apart. instead he leaned back in the driver's seat, pulled his phone into his lap, and started searching for houses. every listing he saw, he imagined Crimmy in it; Crimmy laughing in some small sunlit kitchen, Crimmy curled against him on a worn couch, Crimmy turning empty rooms into memories.
guilt settled heavy in his chest. Crimmy loved being part of his family. Juwon and Beam adored him, treated him like he belonged from the start. and now Jae had torn him away from that warmth. he whispered an apology into the dark car, knowing no one heard it but needing to say it anyway.
still, determination held him steady. he wouldn't let this break him. he wouldn't let Crimmy's future rest on borrowed ground. so he kept scrolling, kept searching, refusing to give up. if he couldn't stay in Juwon's perfect world anymore, he'd build one of his own.
