A Soldier’s Exit

Martin Ruane grew up in the concrete sprawl of Los Angeles, a city of lights, lies, and long memories. His old neighborhood wasn’t the kind of place you stuck around unless you wanted to end up like the guys on the corner - hustlers, boosters, or bodies with no name. The streets raised Martin, and what they didn’t teach him, the Army did.

He enlisted too young. Four tours later, he came home a different man. He had skills now, not the kind you list on a resumé, but the kind that made him useful in the shadows. Civilian life didn’t want him, and Martin wasn’t much good at pretending he belonged there anyway.

He tried to go straight. Construction, private security, even drove a truck for a while. But dead-end jobs and minimum wage didn’t pay for peace of mind, and the veteran affairs didn’t have answers for the nightmares. The system gave up on him so he gave up on the system.

Eventually, he found his way into a crew out in East LA. Guys who knew how to move fast, hit hard, and disappear before the sirens started. He wasn’t just a trigger man, he planned, calculated, executed. Banks, armored trucks, high-value targets. The kind of jobs that took nerves of steel and the precision of a soldier.

He doesn’t talk much about the war or his past. Doesn’t need to. Everything he’s been through shows in his eyes. Cold. Focused. Dangerous.

Now, he moves through the criminal underworld like he was born to it. Not because he wants to, but because the world didn’t give him a choice.

And when it all burns down because it always does, he’ll be the last one standing or the first one to disappear.
