Rick's mother died during the birth and his father had too many kids to take care of so he set him up for adoption. After he joined the family of Floods, he didn't have much contact to his biological father. He had a happy childhood in NYC, sharing a flat with his three brothers, two of which were adopted too.
His new mother was a single mom. Once the schools were out, she sent them occasionally to her brothers and sisters for holidays. When Rick was just 7, he spent one of his holidays at Damien and Luna's place at Los Angeles. They had three daughters, the older one, Lyria was only a few years younger than him and they became good friends. Rick kept visiting the family during summer holidays and he and Lyria grew up and got curious about trying new things. She was a wild girl and he was her follower. The fun ended at just 18 when she got pregnant, they had a son James.
Rick and Lyria got an on and off relationship. After she got pregnant again, Rick proposed in the year of 86.
