Our New Beginning: Nova’s Story
Those last few months of my pregnancy felt like both a blink and a lifetime. Aidan and I spent our days choosing names, finishing the nursery, and imagining what our daughter would be like. Every little kick, every doctor’s appointment, every late-night conversation felt like another step toward meeting her.
When labor finally started, it caught us off guard — right around dinner, when we were winding down for the night. Aidan rushed me to the hospital, staying by my side through everything. He held my hand through each contraction, walked the halls with me, brought me ice and dry clothes, and whispered encouragement when I felt like I couldn’t keep going.
By the time the sun began to rise, our daughter slipped into the world. The moment they placed her on my chest, everything—pain, fear, exhaustion—dissolved. I was overwhelmed by the miracle of her tiny body pressed against me. I remember looking up at Aidan and seeing tears in his eyes as he told me how proud he was.
When he asked what we should name her, I looked toward the window where the first rays of dawn were spilling in. Something about the light made the answer feel obvious. Nova — a new star, the beginning of everything. She was our new light.
Aidan loved it. He started suggesting middle names—James, Bird, Lark, Jo—each one connected to something meaningful to him. I could hear the care in his voice as he explained where each idea came from: the nickname he gave me, his love of music, the fact that she was born before dawn.
Listening to him made my heart swell. Nova Lark felt perfect — bright, musical, full of life. It felt like her.
As he held her in his arms and swayed with her gently, I watched him fall in love with our daughter, and with every breath, I felt our world settle into something new and beautiful.
